A Little Murray Hill Adventure: Delivering More Than Packages

On Sunday, the Murray Hill Neighborhood Association’s Quality of Life Committee organized a special volunteer opportunity—participating in Dorot’s Group Package Delivery for older adults.

We started our morning in Murray Hill, before heading out together on a fun adventure to the Upper West Side (yes, a full crosstown journey on the bus, laughs and all!). At Dorot’s office, we joined a group orientation and picked up thoughtfully prepared packages to deliver to our older adult matches.

But the most meaningful part of the day wasn’t the delivery—it was the connection. Each interaction brought conversation, shared stories, and moments of companionship—leaving volunteers feeling just as uplifted as the people they connected with.

Dorot’s mission is to fight social isolation and loneliness among older adults, and this experience was a powerful reminder of how much even a small act of kindness can mean.

As Dorot celebrates 50 years of building caring, connected communities, we’re excited to grow this program right here in Murray Hill—so neighbors can connect with neighbors, right on our own blocks.

How can you help?
Sign up as a volunteer! But just as important, help us reach more older neighbors—ask your doorman, neighbors, or even your favorite local barista if they know any older adults nearby who could benefit from friendly visits and connection.

We’re happy to make it easy: email us here with any leads, and we’ll have Dorot reach out to them directly. We’ll also be sharing more about this heartwarming program in the coming weeks.

In the meantime, you can learn more about Dorot at www.dorotusa.org.

When we help our senior neighbors stay connected and engaged, we strengthen our entire community.

Won’t you join us? 💛

What a wonderful initiative—thank you to the Quality of Life Committee and Chair Jessica for this. It’s inspiring to see our community come together to support older adults, connecting and caring.
