Announcing the Release of a New Music Mystery Novel: Angels’ Blood: Murder in the Chorus

Roberta Mantell—pen name of E. 35th Street resident and longtime journalist Roberta Hershenson—makes her fiction debut with the recently published Angels’ Blood: Murder in the Chorus, released by Indies United Publishing House.

Set in the high-stakes world of a prestigious New York chorus, the novel follows arts reporter Piper Morgan as she investigates two shocking murders. Her search for the truth uncovers a trail of secrets hidden within a forgotten 19th-century musical masterpiece—featuring an overlooked female composer, whispers of an illicit affair, and a scandal buried for over a century. As Piper inches closer to the truth, she discovers that her own life may be in danger.

Roberta was thrilled to showcase her novel at the recent Chorus America Conference in St. Louis, which drew 300 chorus leaders, conductors, composers, and arts professionals. Photos from the event feature Roberta at her exhibit table and the striking book cover.

Writing under her real name, Roberta Hershenson, she covered arts and culture—especially music—for The New York Times for over 25 years. Angels’ Blood: Murder in the Chorus is her first novel and is available now on Amazon and other online booksellers.
