Anthony Weiner (District 2 City Council candidate) – Meet the Candidates 2025!

The Murray Hill Neighborhood Association reached out to all the candidates running for office in 2025 that intersect our neighborhood (Mayor, Manhattan Borough President, City Council District 2, and City Council District 4, etc.) with questions sourced directly from our members via our Ask the Candidates questionnaire. See the candidate’s answers below.

How you would improve our streets and quality of life?

Hire 3000 additional cops and get them out of their cars and back walking a beat.

Give the City – and not Albany – the right to enforce laws against illegally selling and using marijuana.

I would subject delivery apps to treble damages for violations by delivery scooters and ebikes.

I would end the chaos of our mass transit system being used as housing, vending and bathrooms and return its focus to safe transport.

How are you going to handle the illegal migrant situation that has escalated into NYC?

The overwhelming number of migrants that have come to New York City are in fact here lawfully as asylum seekers under outdated and broken laws that I worked to change. I would seek to change the Callahan Decree that removed decisions about shelter for the homeless from the legislature and gave it to the courts. We have managed the ebbs and tides of migration both in and out of New York City before.

How can housing become more affordable and not just for low income candidates?

Too much of the conversation around housing focuses on the choice between low income housing and market rate. This ignores the challenges facing middle class New Yorkers and those struggling to make in into the middle class. Housing policy should be directed towards giving everyone a ladder. Each rung should be a priority.

How would you address homelessness and mental illness in NYC?

I would change the state law that prohibits the mentally ill homeless from being held and cared for. I would seek to end the court issued decree that gives the courts and not the citizens the right to decide whether and how to provide shelter.

How would you support the Murray Hill Neighborhood Association?

As a City Councilman, I had a policy of attending or having a representative at every community group meeting. Being on the edge of the 2nd District will no longer mean you are out of mind.
