Commercial Waste Zone Roll Out: Midtown South

NYC is rolling out its new Commercial Waste Zone program in phases, changing how businesses contract for private waste collection.

The current rollout includes the Midtown South Commercial Waste Zone, where businesses have until August 31, 2026 to select an authorized private carter.

Murray Hill is largely located within DSNY’s Manhattan Southeast Commercial Waste Zone, which is scheduled for Phase 9. DSNY has not yet announced when Phase 9 will begin.

Businesses should check their address on DSNY’s Commercial Waste Zone map to confirm their zone and see whether they are currently required to take action.

MHNA will share more information when DSNY announces the Phase 9 Manhattan Southeast rollout.

What you need to do if your business is located in the Midtown South Commercial Waste Zone:

1. Confirm your zone by address and compare maximum carter rates.
   
2. Obtain multiple quotes and negotiate your rate. Save money! Carters must provide recycling and organics collection at a discounted rate compared to trash collection.
   
3. Sign a new written service agreement with a zone-authorized carter and post your green DSNY decal.
