Congestion pricing has begun.
Get familiar with the Congestion Relief Zone.
The Congestion Relief Zone includes local streets and avenues in Manhattan at or below 60th Street. This applies even if you drive only one block into the zone and then leave.
Vehicles traveling exclusively on the FDR Drive, West Street/West Side Highway, or the Hugh L. Carey connections to West Street will not be charged a toll. Additionally, vehicles traveling exclusively within the zone—even along or across excluded roadways like West Street or the FDR Drive south of 60 Street—will not be tolled.
Visit our FAQ for more information on tolled roadways.
Get your E-ZPass account in order—or simply get an E-ZPass.
E-ZPass is the easiest and most convenient way to pay the Congestion Relief Zone toll. You can use cash or credit to refill your account.
If you already have an E-ZPass account, make sure that your current license plate is linked to the account. If not, you will be charged the higher Tolls by Mail rate. You can check your account status on the E-ZPass website.
If you don’t have an E-ZPass account, sign up for one now. You can also visit an E-ZPass retail location to get a transponder sooner.

Know the toll rates and crossing credits.
The base toll for passenger vehicles (e.g. sedans, SUVs, small trucks, and vans) is $9 if you use an E-ZPass with your current license plate linked. But rates vary by time of day, type of vehicle, payment method, and whether any discounts or exemptions are applied.
Additionally, a crossing credit toward the toll will be given to vehicles entering the Congestion Relief Zone via the Lincoln, Holland, Queens-Midtown, or Hugh L. Carey Tunnels during the peak period and with a valid E-ZPass. The credit ranges from $1.50 to $12, depending on the vehicle, and is not available overnight.
Customers in taxis, green cabs, and black cars will pay a $0.75 per-trip charge within the Congestion Relief Zone, and customers in high-volume for-hire vehicles will pay a $1.50 per-trip charge.

What to expect when driving into the zone.
When you drive into the zone, you may notice detection points mounted on mast arms over the street. Like regular open road tolling, these identify the license plate of every vehicle entering the Congestion Relief Zone so it can be properly tolled.
For E-ZPass NY customers, the toll will post in three days and any crossing credits will post one day after that. For E-ZPass customers outside New York, the toll will post in four to six days, and crossing credits will post two to four days after that. Tolls by Mail customers will see their charges when the invoice is sent.
See if you’re eligible for a discount or exemption.
Low-income drivers may be eligible for a discount or a tax credit, and exemption plans are available for qualifying vehicles or organizations. If you are eligible for one of these discounts or exemptions, you can apply at any time, but you must pay the full toll until you are approved for a plan.
If you were approved for a discount or exemption plan in the spring, you don’t need to re-apply as the plan is already on your E-ZPass account. To see if the plan is on your account, call E-ZPass at 800-333-8655.
