Earth Day 2026 in Murray Hill: The Beauty of Neighbors Showing Up
This past Saturday, April 18, something special happened in Murray Hill.
On a beautiful spring morning, over 20 neighbors gathered outside Wee Ones Club Preschool, not just to pick up tools and coffee, but to come together with a shared purpose: to care for the neighborhood we all call home.
Fueled by a strong sense of community, neighbors headed out across Murray Hill and onto sidewalks, into tree beds, and along the Park Avenue Malls, ready to make a difference.
Kids jumped right in alongside adults—picking up litter, helping to clear out tree beds, and even assisting with graffiti removal. It was the kind of hands-on, all-ages effort that truly brings a neighborhood to life.
One of the most memorable moments of the day came from two neighbors, meeting for the very first time that morning, who decided to team up and take on the Esplanade entrance at East 37th Street and the FDR Drive. What they found was a space that had been neglected for far too long. What they left behind was a complete transformation.
Together, they cleared out a significant amount of garbage and restored the area with care and pride. It was no small task, and their work made a visible, meaningful impact.
Restoring Beauty Together
On Park Avenue, volunteers carefully removed graffiti from one of the Fragile Giants sculptures, restoring it after it had been marked with large yellow tagging. Seeing the sculpture cleaned and respected again was a powerful reminder of what collective action can do.
A True Community Effort
Some neighbors came prepared with their own tools and gloves. Others borrowed supplies provided by MHNA. Everyone showed up ready to contribute.
We are especially grateful to Kara Greenwood, owner of Wee Ones Club Preschool, who not only hosted our gathering location, but also joined the cleanup herself alongside her sons. That kind of leadership and willingness to jump in is what makes this community so strong.
Thank You, Murray Hill Neighbors
To every neighbor who showed up, pitched in, and gave their time this weekend—thank you!
Whether you cleaned a tree bed, picked up trash, removed graffiti, or simply showed up to be part of something positive, you made a difference. These efforts ripple outward, block by block, neighbor by neighbor.
We truly cannot thank you enough.
