Get Ready for Back-to-School
Get Ready for Back-to-School
Start the school year strong with vaccinations, check-ups and more!
At NYC Health + Hospitals, we know that healthy children are better students. That’s why we are committed to supporting your child’s health both in and out of the classroom.
Get ready for the first day of school with our Back-to-School health tips:
Annual Checkups. Yearly physicals are important to ensure children are growing and developing properly.
NYC Health + Hospitals offers expert pediatric and adolescent health services at little or no cost. To make an appointment for your child’s annual physical or find out more information, call 1-844-NYC-4NYC.
Vaccinations. Vaccines are safe and necessary to help protect children and others against disease. In New York City, all students must get their age-appropriate vaccinations in order to attend child care or school.
Vaccine Requirements. Check the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene website to find the latest information on vaccine requirements for your child.
Flu Shots. Flu season typically starts in the Fall and peaks between December and February in NYC. The best time to get a flu shot is before flu season begins.
Find a flu vaccination site near you.
COVID-19. Updated COVID-19 vaccines will soon be available at all NYC Health + Hospitals locations.
COVID-19 vaccines have been safely administered to hundreds of millions of people in the U.S. and are available in any of our hospitals and select Gotham Health Centers.
Take Care of Mental Health. Social media, screen time, and school stress can be a lot for children and teens. Consider limiting screen time for young children, and set aside time to discuss and establish privacy boundaries for social media use.
New York City teens that are 13-17 can also access a Talkspace online therapist at no cost.
