Growing a Culture of Neighborhood Stewardship in Murray Hill
This year, the Murray Hill Neighborhood Association renewed its commitment to expanding opportunities for neighbors to get involved through our Green & Clean and Quality of Life Committees. Whether it’s volunteering to care for our public spaces, connecting with neighbors over coffee, or partnering on community initiatives, these efforts are helping build a stronger, more connected Murray Hill.
Last weekend, neighbors came together for another Green & Clean Day, caring for street tree beds throughout the neighborhood by removing litter, pulling weeds, loosening compacted soil, and helping our street trees thrive. Afterward, we gathered at The Coffee Haus for our monthly Coffee with Quality of Life, where even more neighbors joined us to share ideas, discuss neighborhood concerns, and learn about ways to get involved.
To us, stewardship means taking pride in Murray Hill and working together to care for the people, places, and public spaces that make our neighborhood special. Through hands-on volunteer opportunities, community partnerships, and educational programs, we’re working to inspire residents and businesses to take an active role in caring for our neighborhood’s urban forest and public spaces while strengthening the connections that make Murray Hill such a wonderful place to live.
We’re excited to continue expanding these opportunities in the months ahead through youth stewardship activities, educational workshops, volunteer projects, Coffee with Quality of Life gatherings, and other initiatives that encourage neighbors to get involved. Together, our Green & Clean and Quality of Life Committees create opportunities for neighbors to care for the environment, connect with one another, and help shape the future of Murray Hill. Whether you volunteer at an event, help care for a tree bed on your block, or simply join us for a conversation over coffee, you’re helping build a cleaner, greener, and more connected Murray Hill.

So glad to hear this is happening. I have been slowly pulling weeds out of pits along one stretch of E. 36th (exposing all kinds of trash) and it’s great to know my neighbors are onto this too.

Thank you for what you’re doing Irwin! I hope you’ll join us in the near future, it feels less like work when you’re among friends!
