Statement by Matt Roberts
I was briefed by NYPD regarding the recent unprovoked stabbings in Manhattan. Thanks to the proactive patrol strategies implemented by the 17th Precinct, the lone suspect was swiftly apprehended at 46th Street and 1st Avenue, and two kitchen knives were recovered.
These senseless acts of violence should never have occurred and highlight critical failures in our criminal justice and mental health systems. It is imperative that all city and state elected officials come together immediately to implement meaningful solutions to address these ongoing challenges.
My deepest sympathies are with the victims and their families during this incredibly difficult time.
We’ll discuss further at Wednesday’s community meeting. For those interested in attending, please visit @17thPrecinctCC for more information.
