Keith Powers Candidate Q&A: (New York State Assembly – District 74 Special Election on February 3rd)

What are your top priorities for the district including neighborhoods like Murray Hill?

My top priorities for Murray Hill are tackling the high cost of living, addressing quality life and public safety issues, and boosting public transportation. Throughout my 8 years representing Murray Hill in the City Council, I was proud of the work that we did together to make it much safer, cleaner, and resilient neighborhood. I am running for State Assembly to continue our great partnership.

How would your policies improve our safety, affordability, and quality of life?

Over my time in office, I have delivered on a number of promises to improve safety, affordability, and quality of life — whether it was my legislation to deliver new noise cameras to tackle noise pollution, to close down illegal weed shops, or to tackle the epidemic of unsafe e-bike batteries. I also have worked alongside the 17th Precinct and 13th Precinct to make sure that our communities have appropriate enforcement. My office also invested hundreds of thousands of dollars the community for improved sanitation services.

How have you supported, and how will you continue to support our community and the Murray Hill Neighborhood Association if elected or re-elected?

During my time in the City Council, I was deeply proud of our work together to improve Murray Hill. Whether it was our sanitation and clean up efforts, opposing the casino in the neighborhood, or investing in new park space in the community. Under my representation, I was able to secure new park space on the waterfront at 34th Street, build a new dog run on the East River, and invest millions to upgrade St. Vartan’s Park. We also were able to make sure that the casino did not harm our community, create new faster transportation options, and invest funding to help keep Murray Hill cleaner!

Anything else you would like to highlight?

I am thankful to MHNA for your great partnership over the years and looking forward to working towards a more affordable, safer, and cleaner community!
