Keith Powers Wins Democratic Nomination for Assembly District 74
New York City District 4 Council Member Keith Powers has secured the Democratic nomination for the New York State Assembly seat representing District 74, which includes Murray Hill, Gramercy, the East Village, Stuyvesant Town–Peter Cooper Village, and parts of Midtown and the Lower East Side.
The nomination was decided at a meeting of the Manhattan County Democratic Committee held on December 10 at the Sirovich Center in the East Village. Powers received approximately 60 percent of the vote on the first ballot, prevailing over three other Democratic candidates.

Assembly District 74 became vacant following the election of former Assembly Member Harvey Epstein to the New York City Council. Epstein endorsed Powers ahead of the committee vote.
Powers has represented City Council District 4 since 2018, a district that includes Murray Hill and much of Manhattan’s East Side. He is currently term-limited and unable to seek re-election to the City Council.

A special election to fill the Assembly seat is expected to take place in early 2026. The winner will serve the remainder of the current Assembly term, with the seat appearing again on the ballot during the June 2026 primary.
Residents of Murray Hill and surrounding neighborhoods will continue to receive updates as more information about the special election becomes available.
