Meet City Council Member Virginia Maloney, representing District 4

My name is Virginia Maloney, and I am honored to represent you in the New York City Council at a pivotal moment for our City.

District 4 sits at the crossroads of residential life and global influence. From Stuyvesant Town and Peter Cooper Village to East Midtown and the Upper East Side, from our legacy mom and pop shops and public schools to some of the world’s most important cultural and diplomatic institutions, what happens here shapes the world far beyond our district’s borders.

New York faces real challenges: affordability pressures, public safety concerns, infrastructure strain, and a rapidly evolving economy. Meeting this moment requires leadership that is practical, experienced, and forward-looking.

I was born and raised on Manhattan’s East Side, and I bring experience in city government, federal consulting, and the technology sector, focused on one consistent goal: delivering practical solutions that improve people’s daily lives.

At the federal level, I worked with agencies to modernize high-speed rail, improve healthcare outcomes, and identify efficiencies that saved taxpayer dollars. At the New York City Economic Development Corporation under Mayor Bloomberg, I helped expand free public Wi-Fi across the five boroughs and built programs to support small businesses and attract talent to our City.

And for nearly a decade, I worked in technology as a Product Manager at Meta, leading initiatives at the intersection of technology and civic life. Now, I represent you.

My focus in the Council is clear: advance affordable housing so families can live here and stay here; keep our streets clean and our neighborhoods safe; strengthen transit infrastructure, support small businesses and revitalize commercial corridors; and ensure that innovation and emerging technologies serve New Yorkers responsibly.

This is my first newsletter, but you’ll be hearing more from me. Monthly, I’ll share updates on City Hall, the neighborhood and community, upcoming events and other useful information affecting our district. Feel free to submit (by the 10th day of each month; by 9PM) event/service flyers for inclusion in the newsletter to bit.ly/maloneynewslettersubmission.

As always, if you have any questions or need assistance, please visit at 211 E 43rd St Suite 1205, email at district4@council.nyc.gov, or call my office at 212-818-0580.

Sincerely,
Virginia
