Metamorphoses: Fernanda Uribe-Horta’s Ceramic Ecosystem Opens at the Mexican Consulate

Free Public Exhibition Runs June 24 – July 18, 2025

The Murray Hill neighborhood welcomes a unique artistic experience this summer with the opening of Metamorphoses, a solo exhibition by Brooklyn-based Mexican-Cuban artist Fernanda Uribe-Horta. Presented by the Consulate General of Mexico in New York, the exhibition is on view from June 24 to July 18, 2025, at 27 East 39th Street, right in the heart of Murray Hill. Here’s the catalog of the exhibited pieces.

Uribe-Horta’s Metamorphoses explores powerful themes of transformation, renewal, and mutation—drawing inspiration from the life cycles of insects, Greek mythology, and her own personal health journey. The immersive installation invites visitors into a whimsical world of fantastical hybrid creatures, part animal, part plant—aptly named Las Amantlas, a playful combination of the Spanish words for animals (animales) and plants (plantas).

In addition to ceramic sculptures, the exhibition features delicate collages and drawings that blur the line between decay and rebirth. Visitors are encouraged to use magnifying glasses provided at the exhibition to examine the works up close—mimicking the experience of a natural history museum, filtered through a surreal, Alice-in-Wonderland-like lens.

“Metamorphoses is a reflection on the beauty and mystery of transformation,” says Uribe-Horta. “Inspired by the silent alchemy of insects in their chrysalis, myths of mutation, and my own experiences, this exhibition is a meditation on finding meaning—and even sanity—in times of uncertainty, offering transformation as a quiet but radical act of resilience.”

Uribe-Horta’s practice is rooted in hand-built ceramics and draws from her Mexican, Cuban, and Italian heritage. Her richly textured and colorful creations have earned international recognition, with past exhibitions in Europe, India, Mexico, and the United States. Her work has been featured in Architectural Digest, British Vogue, and Dwell, and she is an active member of the International Female Design Council.
