Neighborhood Pride Starts Early in Murray Hill: Adopt-A-Block at Wee Ones Club
This January, the Murray Hill Neighborhood Association’s Quality of Life Committee kicked off a new chapter of our Adopt-A-Block with school outreach and a very special first visit to Wee Ones Club Preschool. This visit built on the wonderful work already happening at the school—this fall, the Wee Ones Four’s class officially adopted their school block, becoming some of our youngest Adopt-A-Block ambassadors.
Using our January lesson, “This Is Our Block, Part of Our Neighborhood,” we spent time with the students talking about what a neighborhood is in the simplest and most meaningful way: the places where we live, play, go to school, shop, and see familiar faces every day. The children loved seeing photos of locations around Murray Hill, helping them connect the idea of “community” to places they already know and love.
Together, we talked about what it means to be part of a community and how even the youngest neighbors can help take care of their block. The students were engaged, curious, and full of thoughtful observations—proof that neighborhood pride truly starts early.
This visit marked the beginning of what we hope will be a lasting partnership between the Murray Hill Neighborhood Association and local schools, bringing community care, civic pride, and neighborhood awareness into the classroom in age-appropriate and joyful ways.
We’re so grateful to Wee Ones Club for welcoming us so warmly, and we can’t wait to continue growing the next generation of Murray Hill helpers, one block at a time.
