NEW POLL: NY Voters Say Congestion Pricing Has Led to Faster Commutes and Less Traffic
Six in 10 Voters Say Trump Should Keep Congestion Pricing
New York City’s first four weeks with congestion pricing has come with faster commutes and less traffic, according to a new poll by Morning Consult. President Trump recently called the future of congestion pricing into question, but six in 10 (59%) of voters say President Trump should “allow congestion pricing in New York City to continue.” Key takeaways can be found below.
Key Takeaways Include:
Less Traffic
- By a 2-to-1 margin (47% agree, 24% disagree), NY voters say congestion pricing has led to less traffic in New York City.
- Seven in 10 Manhattan voters, six in 10 NYC voters, and a majority of metro area residents outside NYC agree there has been less traffic congestion as a result of congestion pricing.
- Three in four voters who regularly commute into the central business district also say that there has been less traffic.
Faster Commutes
- There is strong agreement (39% agree, 27% disagree) that congestion pricing has led to faster commutes into and out of Manhattan and that congestion pricing has led to faster commutes inside Manhattan (41% agree, 26% disagree).
- Three in four voters who regularly drive into the central business district say they experience faster commutes into and out of Manhattan.

Hi! In case you are unaware, Partnership for New York, is extremely biased towards congestion pricing. Kathy Wilde, the long-term executive director of Partnership for New York, sat on the MTA Traffic Mobility Review Board, which has overseen the implementation of congestion pricing, and authored the recommended toll structure ($15 per resident car entering the Congestion Relief Zone) that Gov. Kathy Hochul paused in June 2024, saying it was too much for working class New Yorkers to pay. Due to this conflict of interest, I would not encourage anyone to believe any poll regarding the popularity of congestion pricing that the Partnership for New York produces or promotes.
