Polish Consulate Opens Historic De Lamar Mansion to the Public for Community Open House

The Consulate General of the Republic of Poland welcomed neighbors and friends on May 9th for a special Open House event at the historic Joseph Raphael De Lamar House, located at 233 Madison Avenue in the heart of Murray Hill.

The event offered the community a rare opportunity to explore the landmark Beaux-Arts mansion, which has served as the official residence of the Polish Consulate since 1975.

Guests were greeted by Mateusz Sakowicz, Consul General of Poland, and Anna Wańczyk, Vice Consul and Head of Legal Affairs, along with the full consular team, who were on hand to share the rich history of the building and discuss the Consulate’s work in New York and beyond.

Attendees were able to tour the elegant salons and ornate interiors of the mansion, which was originally built in 1905 for Dutch-born mining magnate Joseph Raphael De Lamar. The event served as a gesture of goodwill and cultural exchange between the Polish Consulate and the local community.

The evening included light refreshments, guided tours, and conversations highlighting the Consulate’s services, cultural initiatives, and community partnerships. Visitors left with a deeper appreciation for both the history of the De Lamar Mansion and Poland’s continued contributions to New York’s civic and cultural life.
