The Pierpont Morgan Library Print

The Pierpont Morgan Library, a New York City Landmark and National Register of Historic Places, at 29-33 East 36th Street.

The original building of what is now know as The Morgan Library and Museum, incorporating three landmarked buildings and a new entrance designed by Renzo Piano.

Home to one of the most luxuriously appointed private museums in the world, the main building is a fine example of early sixteenth-century Italian Renaissance style. Designed by McKim, Mead & White, it was erected in 1913 on principles associated with the Acropolis: its unpierced white marble walls were built without the use of mortar.

The entrance is flanked by a pair of lionesses, said to be companions to the famous males that guard the entrance to the New York Public Library just a few blocks away.
