Romanian Cultural Institute Hosts Murray Hill Neighborhood Association’s April 2025 Monthly Meeting — An Evening of History, Art, and Culture
The Murray Hill Neighborhood Association gathered for its April 2025 monthly meeting at one of the neighborhood’s most fascinating and culturally significant landmarks — the Romanian Cultural Institute located at 200 East 38th Street. The evening offered members an opportunity to experience Romania’s rich cultural heritage right in the heart of Murray Hill, blending history, diplomacy, and contemporary art.

A History of Cultural Diplomacy
Guests were warmly welcomed by Dorian Branea, Director of the Romanian Cultural Institute in New York, who shared the remarkable history and mission of the Institute. Founded in 1969, the Institute was created as Romania’s leading platform for cultural diplomacy, with a mission to promote Romanian arts, language, and heritage globally.
Since opening its New York office, the Institute has been an essential part of the city’s cultural landscape, hosting exhibitions, concerts, film screenings, lectures, and literary events — all designed to foster dialogue between Romanian culture and the world. The building at 200 East 38th Street serves not only as an elegant event space but also as a symbol of Romania’s creative spirit and engagement with the international community.
Branea highlighted the Institute’s role in fostering cross-cultural connections and its ongoing efforts to introduce New Yorkers to Romania’s vibrant contemporary arts scene alongside its storied traditions.
Exclusive Tour of Duae Lingua
Following the presentation, guests were treated to an exclusive guided tour of the Institute’s latest art exhibition, Duae Lingua, led by Daniela Holban, Curator and Cultural Programs Manager. The installation features works by Romanian and Eastern European artists exploring themes of bilingual identity, cultural duality, and the nuances of communication across languages.
