The World’s Tall Ships Are Coming to New York City
Experience the Celebration from Murray Hill
This July, New York City will host one of the largest maritime celebrations in American history as part of America’s 250th anniversary. From July 3–8, New York City will welcome 48 tall ships from around the world, including iconic vessels like Portugal’s NRP Sagres pictured above, along with more than 40 naval vessels and over 150 U.S. and allied aircraft led by the U.S. Navy Blue Angels. One of the best parts for our neighborhood is that you’ll be able to experience part of this once-in-a-generation celebration right here in Murray Hill.
Watch the Class B Tall Ships on the East River
On Friday, July 3, from 1:00–3:00 p.m., the Class B Tall Ships will sail down the East River, passing right by Murray Hill’s waterfront on their way to New York Harbor. It’s a rare opportunity to experience these historic sailing vessels without leaving the neighborhood.
Then on Saturday, July 4, head to the Hudson River to watch the majestic Class A Tall Ships, the largest sailing vessels in the fleet, lead the International Parade of Sail as they pass the Statue of Liberty. They will be joined by more than 40 naval vessels and an incredible International Aerial Review featuring over 150 aircraft led by the U.S. Navy Blue Angels.
Tour the Ships for FREE
From July 5–8, many of the visiting tall ships will be open for FREE public tours at locations including Brooklyn Bridge Park, South Street Seaport, Staten Island’s Stapleton waterfront, and Pier 86 through the Intrepid Museum. Reservations are strongly recommended due to high demand.
Follow the Fleet Live
The excitement starts before the celebration even begins! Use the Live Tall Ship Tracker to follow many of the participating vessels as they make their journey to New York Harbor from around the world. Once they arrive, you can continue tracking them throughout the week as they sail around our harbor. It’s a fun way to build excitement before they even reach New York City.
