Upcoming F/M Train Swap

The MTA will swap F and M train service between Manhattan and Queens on weekdays between 6:00 AM and 9:30 PM, eliminating a merge at Queens Plaza that has caused delays to Queens Boulevard riders. This swap will improve service on the E, F, M, and R lines by providing consistent running times and better on-time performance for the 1.2 million riders who use these lines every day.

F trains will replace M trains at:
Queens Plaza
Court Sq-23 St
Lexington Av/53 St
5 Av/53 St
M trains will replace F trains at:
21 St-Queensbridge
Roosevelt Island
Lexington Av/63 St
57 St
The F/M route swap will go into effect on December 8, 2025. You can learn more about the change at mta.info/fmswap

NYC Ferry Changes

Starting December 8th, NYC Ferry will have a new route pattern (highlighted in the map above), with the goals of shortening commute times, providing riders with more places to go, and improving the overall efficiency of the system.

Beyond the short-term improvements of new routes, NYC Ferry is also looking to the future of ferry service in NYC. EDC is making medium-term commitments to grow the system, announcing the expansion of the East 34th Street Ferry Terminal, the construction of a second NYC Ferry homeport facility, and new landings at East Harlem 125th Street and MADE-Bush Terminal in Sunset Park. EDC will also start a Vision for the Future of Ferries in the New York Harbor – a document that EDC will develop to explore and evaluate the viability of different types of ferry service for waterfront neighborhoods and regions of New York City. To learn more about the short, medium and long term commitments, make sure to read the 2025 Ferry Report.
Open Streets Application Now Open!

The NYC Department of Transportation (NYC DOT) works with community-based organizations, educational institutions, and business groups to execute Open Streets citywide. In coordination with community partners, NYC DOT can also assist in developing operational plans to manage streets for multiple uses, including outdoor dining, programming, and outdoor learning/recreation for schools. NYC DOT works with partners and local stakeholders to ensure loading, deliveries, and emergency access are coordinated as part of the Open Streets’ operations. The Open Streets application is for partners who want to manage their own Open Street.

The 2026 application features important deadlines partners should consider before applying:

For the first time this year, all Open Streets proposed to launch in 2026 as a Limited Local Access or Full Closure; the application deadline is January 31, 2026.

New for 2026, application deadlines for School Open Streets have changed:

For schools applying for an Open Street proposed to launch during the summer of 2026, before the start of the 2026-2027 academic year, the application deadline is January 31, 2026.
For Open Streets proposed to launch at the beginning of the 2026-2027 academic year, there is an extended deadline of March 31, 2026.
