Upcoming Community Events from Council Member Maloney’s Office
Council Member Virginia Maloney’s office has several community events coming up, including a street tree care event right here in Murray Hill.
Here’s what’s happening:
Street Tree Care in Murray Hill
Tuesday, September 15, 4-6 PM
East 35th St & Park Ave, SE corner
Join Council Member Maloney’s office and the LES Ecology Center to care for our urban forest canopy on the East Side. Our trees clean our air, cool our streets, mitigate flooding, and much more – so come repay the favor, and help care for the trees by aerating soil, weeding, removing litter, and applying NYC-made compost and mulch. We will learn about our city’s urban forest, including different types of trees found in the neighborhood, how to care for the soil, and what types of plants you may see growing in tree beds. All materials provided, but please wear clothes you are comfortable getting dirty in – sturdy, closed-toe shoes and long-sleeves, and pants are recommended. Don’t forget your hat and reusable water bottle, too!

Paper Shredding in StuyTown
Tuesday, September 22, 9 AM – 12 PM
Corner of East 20th St & 1st Ave, on the south side of 20th just east of 1st
Council Member Maloney and NYS Senator Kristen Gonzalez are partnering with the New York Department of Sanitation to host a free paper shredding event in Stuyvesant Town/Peter Cooper Village. Bring unwanted personal documents for secure shredding and recycling.
Movie Night at Bryant Park
Introduced by Council Member Maloney
Monday, September 14, 7:50 PM
Join us for the final film of the 33rd annual summer movie series in Bryant Park! Bring a blanket and a friend, and grab your spot on the lawn to watch Shakespeare in Love on the big screen under the stars. A romantic comedy from the 1990s set in the 1590s, Tom Stoppard’s script imaginatively unfurls the witty, sexy and timeless tale in which a young Shakespeare, out of cash and ideas, meets his ideal woman, who inspires him to write the greatest love story ever told. The lawn opens at 5 PM, and the film begins at 8 PM – no RSVP necessary.
