Whole Foods Is Coming to Murray Hill
Whole Foods Market has signed a 15-year lease for a new location at 509 Third Avenue, between East 34th and 35th Streets, according to a lease memorandum filed with the city. The store will occupy approximately 9,000 square feet on the ground floor of The Murray, the 35-story residential building that opened on the site.
The Murray Hill location will be a Whole Foods Market Daily Shop, the company’s smaller format designed specifically for dense urban neighborhoods.
Daily Shop stores focus on the things New Yorkers are more likely to pick up on a quick grocery run, including fresh produce, meat and seafood, prepared foods, sandwiches, breads, pantry staples and grab-and-go meals, along with Whole Foods’ 365 brand and a selection of local products.
Whole Foods introduced the Daily Shop concept in Manhattan in 2024 and has been steadily expanding it. The company says the smaller stores are intended to make it easier to shop for everyday essentials and meals without the footprint of a traditional supermarket.
The Third Avenue store will also include outdoor terrace space, according to the lease filing. Whole Foods has confirmed the lease, but has not yet announced an opening date or additional details about the Murray Hill location.
We’ll share more details as we learn when Murray Hill’s new Whole Foods will open.
